Iowa state senator introduces anti-Stanford band legislation

Some Iowa citizens want to send a message to a certain group of California musicians.

Mark Chelgren, R-Ottumwa, seeks to have the three state universities — Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa — prohibited from future collaboration with Stanford's marching band by introducing Senate Bill 2081 on Wednesday.

"I think it's unfortunate because here in Iowa we try to teach sportsmanship," Chelgren told the Des Moines Register. "We try to teach courtesy, and when someone behaves in a way that is contrary to that, we need to point it out.
