With the No. 155 overall pick in Round 5, the Miami Dolphins added another able body to the team’s group of safeties. The Dolphins selected former Maryland safety Dante Trader Jr. 12 picks after selecting his teammate, defensive lineman Jordan Phillips.
Teams don’t often find key starters in the fifth round, and it doesn’t seem likely that Trader takes on that big of a role in his rookie season, either. On April 15, Dolphins manager Chris Grier expressed confidence in the team’s safeties. But he noted the group could still use some depth.
“We feel good about (Ifeatu Melifonwu, Ashtyn Davis, Patrick McMorris) and Elijah Campbell as well,” Grier said.
