Running back Bryce Love, No. 8 Stanford's counterpunch to Heisman Trophy candidate Christian McCaffrey, won't play in Friday's opener against Kansas State, coach David Shaw confirmed (via ESPN.com).
A speedster who averaged 10.8 yards per touch last season, Love suffered what has been described only as a lower-body, although he reportedly was seen in a walking boot 10 days ago.
"He's making progress, it's just not as quick as we had hoped," Shaw said.
Love's typical touches will likely to go to 220-pound redshirt freshman Cameron Scarlett.

"You've got to crack the egg sometime, and that'll be this Friday night for him," Shaw said of Scarlett.
