James Hinchcliffe will be on the pole for the 2016 Indy 500, the 100th running of IndyCar's biggest event. That's a surprise given that he was involved in a horrifying crash preparing for the Indy 500 just a year ago. But he'll start first on Sunday.
There are 33 drivers entered in this year's Indy 500 field. The pole winner hasn't won the race since 2009 when Helio Castroneves did, but the pole sitter has finished in the top 10 in all but two of the last 13 years. Juan Pablo Montoya won last year's Indy 500 after starting 15th.
