Forget a Settlement, Just Make a Ruling
To the Sports Editor:
Re “No Suspension of Arguments in Brady Case, a Test of Wills,” Aug 20: Judge Richard M. Berman is making a mockery of the judicial system in his treatment of the litigation between the N.F.L. and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady over the deflated football brouhaha. While there is great value to settling legal disputes, there are some cases that defy settlement and necessitate a judicial ruling.
But the inability or unwillingness of this jurist to issue a ruling is troubling. He has spent enormous time, effort and judicial resources trying to bully the parties into reaching a settlement that neither side apparently desires.
