ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — For the most part, Tom Watson appreciated all the support he received from the fans at the Old Course on Thursday as he began what he said would be his final British Open. There was a small group of spectators, however, with whom Watson, 65, took issue: the ones wearing Tom Watson masks.
“Those are ugly masks,” Watson said after finishing with a four-over-par 76. “I told them there’s way too many wrinkles in those masks. It kind of scared me looking at those, like, geez: Look at those things. That guy is ugly.
