Of the 40 cars to begin the Geico 500 at Talladega, only five drove away without some sort of damage. One such race car was driven by rookie Chase Elliott, but according to drivers within the race, the No. 24 car was lucky it wasn't involved in "The Big One."
Before getting involved in accidents of his own, teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. offered his restrictor-plate advice to Elliott, while others condemned the rookie's way of driving.
