Illinois coach Lovie Smith announced the dismissal of three players from the team on Wednesday.
Tight end Zarrian Holcombe and offensive linemen Darta Lee and Howard Watkins were arrested earlier this month and charged with residential burglary and aggravated robbery. All three were suspended indefinitely on May 10 following their arrests.
According to police, the three players entered another student's dorm room at around 1 a.m. while wearing masks and carrying a BB gun. The alleged victim believed the BB gun was real, and the three players went through his dresser and wallet.
