RALIEGH, N.C.u2015 When Florida basketball coach Todd Golden first glanced at the NCAA Tournament bracket last week, he knew there was a chance for a special homecoming of sorts.
As the No. 1 seed in the West Region, the Florida Gators (32-4) moved on to the Sweet 16 in San Francisco, Calif., following their 77-75 win over No. 8 seed UConn at the Lenovo Center. Florida will now play Thursday against 4-seed Maryland.
UF’s first Sweet 16 appearance since 2017 will hold special significance for Golden, who played in the Bay Area at Saint Mary’s from 2004-08 and was an associate coach (2016-19) and head coach (2019-22) at the University of San Francisco before being hired by UF.
