Ice Bucket Challenge funds significant ALS discovery

You can admit it: When you saw all those videos of people dumping buckets of ice on their heads — from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to NBA giant LeBron James — you thought it was just another summertime distraction that would not amount to much.

As it turns out, every cold, spine-tingling jolt in 2014 added up to make a difference in the fight to find a cure for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. More than $100 million was reportedly raised, and $1 million of that went to Project MinE research.
