Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Petr Mrazek left the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs after a thunderous collision with forward Kyle Clifford in the second period.
As both raced towards a loose puck in the Hurricanes’ end, Clifford reached in for it and struck Mrazek, sending him hard to the ice.
Clifford received a five-minute major initially, but was then reversed to a two-minute minor for charging.
Mrazek left the game under his own power, but with starter James Reimer already making way for the backup in the first intermission, Carolina had to turn to an emergency backup for the rest of the game.
