The Giants have been looking for a new head coach for about 10 days and were waiting to interview the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator, Hue Jackson, before making a decision on Tom Coughlin’s replacement. Jackson was expected to meet Thursday morning with John Mara, one of the team’s owners, and Jerry Reese, the general manager.
In a major surprise Wednesday, Jackson never got on his scheduled flight to New Jersey. He instead agreed to become coach of the downtrodden Cleveland Browns. Jackson and the Browns were completing the terms of his contract Wednesday, according to people familiar with the negotiations who were not authorized to speak about them publicly.
