The United States men’s national team played Germany in a friendly on Wednesday and pulled off an impressive 2-1 win over the defending World Cup champions. The Americans looked good doing so, too — they dominated large sections of the second half and deserved the victory.
…But because this is American soccer, a lot of people second-guessed the victory. Here, in the highlighted parts, I will address the haters’ comments about the U.S. victory and address them one-by-one. By the end, we will have reached a consensus about how excited we should be about this win.
Germany didn’t play its “A team”
This is the most prevalent thing I heard yesterday after the United States’ victory over Germany, that the Germans didn’t play their best players.
