Glen Sather Steps Down as Rangers’ General Manager

Glen Sather, who has been at the helm of the Rangers since 2000, said Wednesday that he was relinquishing his role as general manager in favor of his assistant Jeff Gorton. Sather, 71, will remain team president.

After missing the playoffs in Sather’s first four seasons, the Rangers have reached the postseason in nine of the last 10 years. They advanced to the Eastern Conference finals three times in the last four seasons, including a trip to the Stanley Cup finals in 2014, when they lost to the Los Angeles Kings in five games.

The Rangers won the Presidents’ Cup, with a league-best 113 points last season, and advanced to the conference finals, losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games.
