Giants See a Sliver of Hope During a Shattered Night

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Saturday did not begin well for the Giants. Even the warm-up to their preseason game with the Jets was a struggle.

In keeping with a recurring theme of the preseason, one Giants starter, in this case defensive end Robert Ayers Jr., injured his ankle just getting ready to play and was sidelined. The Giants were already missing seven projected starters, including two, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul and left tackle Will Beatty, who were lost before training camp opened.

Then Saturday’s game started and things really turned bleak.

The Giants’ first seven offensive plays gained 8 yards.
