Gabby Douglas was the target of online attacks during the Olympic Games in Rio, and she recently opened up to People Magazine about her emotions during that time.
“I wonder how many times I cried,” she asked. “Probably enough to fill so many gallons of water. And it would be like, deep, emotional cries because I was so hurt.”
The first attacks came when she didn't place her hand over her heart while her teammates stood on the gold medal podium while the anthem played. Although it's perfectly natural for people to not place their hands over their heart during the anthem, Douglas received unwarranted criticism from people all over.
