The Fort Wayne Mastodons went 24-10 last season and lost in the first round of the NIT. With much of that team returning, they had high expectations for this season.
Those expectations went through the roof Tuesday night after Fort Wayne (full name Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne) pulled off a 71-68 overtime upset of No. 3 Indiana at home.
Fort Wayne coach Jon Coffman commended his team's resolve, especially the defensive effort in holding Indiana 28 points under its 96-point average for the season. The Hoosiers (3-1) had beaten No. 5 Kansas, UMass Lowell and Liberty.
