Former NHL coach Jacques Demers, 71, was in stable condition Thursday at a Montreal hospital after suffering a stroke Wednesday night, CBC News reported.
Demers, who is now a Quebec senator, was scheduled to appear on a radio show Wednesday in Montreal but never showed up.

He was inundated with get-well wishes from across Canada, including a tweet from the prime minister.
