Former Lions Safety Tommy Vaughn Dies at 77

Former Detroit Lions player Tommy Vaughn died Sunday at the age of 77, according to Elaine Sung of the Detroit Free Press.

Vaughn spent his entire NFL career in Detroit as a safety and return specialist from 1965-71. He appeared in 88 games, starting 61, totaling nine interceptions and nine fumble recoveries in that span.

The versatile player also added 1,950 return yards in his career.

Though Vaughn only appeared in one playoff game, he was a starter on the 1970 Lions squad that had the No. 2 defense in the NFL.
