The former Chargers team doctor accused by the California state medical board of gross negligence for his treatment of Hall of Fame NFL linebacker Junior Seau has reached a settlement with the board, USA Today reported Thursday.
Under the agreement, Dr. David Chao, 52, will be placed on four years probation and won't be allowed to prescribe the drug Ambien during that time.
The medical board claimed Seau, in the months before his suicide in 2012, didn't receive proper care from Chao because the physician failed to exercise proper caution in prescribing the sleep aid, to a patient who was showing signs of depression and contemplating suicide.
