He got stuck in pregame traffic, but Edinson Volquez arrived, as promised at Citi Field before the first pitch of Game 4 on Saturday. He had flown to New York after a sad three-day trip to the Dominican Republic, where he attended the funeral of his father, Daniel, who died Tuesday.
When he arrived in New York, Volquez, who pitched Game 1 on Tuesday without knowledge of his father’s death, greeted his Royals teammates, told Manager Ned Yost that he was ready to pitch Game 5 on Sunday, put on his uniform and went to the dugout.
