Gabie Figueroa is living two dreams at once.
On weekends she plays defense for the New York Riveters of the National Women’s Hockey League. One of four teams in the new league, the Riveters play home games at Aviator Sports and Event Center in Brooklyn, where Figueroa’s parents and grandparents are regulars among the boisterous crowds.
During the week, Figueroa, a Princeton graduate who turns 24 on Sunday, works with the company supervising construction of the proposed nine-rink Kingsbridge National Ice Center in the Bronx.
The former Rangers captain Mark Messier is part of the group leading the project at the century-old and long-empty Kingsbridge Armory.
