Floyd Mayweather’s Choice of Andre Berto Excites Few

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has named the final opponent in his storied career. But the general reaction to his announcement has been resigned disappointment.

Mayweather, 38, is coming off the most lucrative fight ever, his 15-round unanimous decision in May over Manny Pacquiao, which received poor reviews on aesthetic grounds.

With one last chance to redeem himself in the eyes of fans, Mayweather has chosen a less than inspiring opponent for his farewell fight on Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas: Andre Berto.

Born in Miami, Berto fought for Haiti in the 2004 Olympics, losing in the first round.
