The Football Association of Wales has confirmed that its request to wear poppies for Remembrance Day weekend has been turned down by FIFA.
Chris Coleman's side hosts Serbia in a World Cup qualifier in Cardiff on Saturday, but will be forced to wear black armbands to mark the occasion.
FAW Chief Executive Jonathan Ford expressed his disappointment at FIFA's decision but remarked that the team must follow the decision.
“The FAW naturally wishes to respect and honour those who fought and lost their lives fighting for their country," Ford said. “As an Association we also have to respect the rules of FIFA and following long discussions with members of the FAW Council, staff, management and players, a decision has been made not to wear the poppy against Serbia.
