In the nine months since it appeared in theaters, the movie “Concussion” has failed at the box office and whiffed at producing the Academy Award nominations its Christmas Day release insinuated. The only thing it can claim now is that it’s not the worst film most of us have seen this year that involves blows to the head in football.
For all the pretense of “Concussion” — the ghost of Mike Webster hanging about and the unwavering focus on the trials of pathologist Bennett Omalu rather than the players whose brains were at risk — it’s a lot worse to see young men in college or the NFL absorbing shots to the head in a sport working hard to eliminate the problem.
