Fan injured by foul ball during White Sox-Rays game, taken off on stretcher

A fan at Tropicana Field was struck in the face by a foul ball off the bat of Rays designated hitter Steven Souza in the seventh inning of Friday's game against the White Sox.

Souza fouled off a 97 mph Chris Sale fastball toward the Rays' dugout on the first-base side. The ball went through a small opening in the netting in front of the camera well, striking the female fan near her left eye.

FAGAN: Way past time to extend protective netting

Souza was clearly distraught and struck out three pitches later to end the inning.
