Evan Jager began his road to Rio last Sunday with a relatively uneventful outdoor opener — 3:38.67 for third place in the Payton Jordan 1500 meters.
The mark was just a tad slower than the 3:38.40 he ran at the same meet a year ago but was in range with previous season openers.
In Jager’s own words, it was “nothing that would break any message boards.”
The 27-year-old steeplechaser seems perfectly okay with that for now, especially given the emotional roller coaster of a season he had last year.
Jager proved his fitness early on in 2015, running a 1500 meter personal best in mid-June and before going on to win his fourth U.
