Eugenie Bouchard’s entry into the second week of the United States Open was supposed to have coincided with the return of her new coaching consultant, Jimmy Connors, who had planned to rejoin her if she reached the fourth round.
Instead, she will not play at all. The tournament director David Brewer announced Sunday that the 25th-seeded Bouchard, a 21-year-old Canadian, had withdrawn from the tournament, citing a concussion she sustained in a locker-room accident on Friday.
Brewer said Bouchard sustained the injury late Friday night, after her mixed-doubles victory with Nick Kyrgios in the first round.
