Raul Mondesi Jr., the Kansas City Royals' top prospect, has been suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances.
Mondesi has been playing with Kansas City's Double-A team, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. He tested positive for clenbuterol, which he claims was in Subrox-C, an over-the-counter cold medication he purchased in the Dominican Republic. Mondesi, the son of former MLB player Raul Mondesi Sr., said he "failed to read the labeling on the medication" and did not consult with team trainers before taking it.

The standard PED suspension is 80 games, but Mondesi's ban was reduced to 50 after he convinced MLB he did not take it intentionally.
