Eddie Howe, the Newcastle manager, will miss Sunday’s visit of Manchester United after going to hospital for tests.
Howe missed Friday’s pre-match press conference because of illness, with assistant Jason Tindall standing in for media duties.
Howe was admitted to hospital on Friday night and has been told he will be kept in for further assessment until Sunday.
Despite Tindall insisting that Howe would be “fine for the weekend”, the club issued a statement on Saturday afternoon to confirm that the manager will not be in the dugout for Sunday’s Premier League fixture. Tindall will deputise once again alongside first-team coach Graham Jones.
