Amid the uncertainty of a penalty, Johnson held his nerve to win by three strokes at Oakmont Country Club on Sunday, having posted 11 top-10 finishes at majors previously, with two of those as a runner-up.
With six holes remaining in his final round, Johnson was told by tournament officials that they were considering a one-stroke penalty after he appeared to cause a ball to move on the fifth hole, though no decision would be made until the end of the day.
