Draymond Green being left off 9 Defensive Player of the Year ballots is no crime

Let’s start this out by saying this: Congratulations to Kawhi Leonard for topping Draymond Green in a hard-fought battle for the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. Leonard takes home his second trophy in a row after being the guiding hand for the best defense in the NBA.

The voters, then, got it right. Mostly. Whether you want to argue for the Spurs’ Leonard (who received 84 of 130 first-place votes) or the Warriors’ Green (44), the award clearly should have been and ultimately was decided between them. Leonard is the most dominant perimeter defender of the era, while Green is an undersized positionless beast.
