Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani throws first pitches off mound after UCL surgery

One day after he made history with a wild walk-off grand slam, Shohei Ohtani returned to the mound.

Ohtani threw 10 pitches in a bullpen session at Dodger Stadium ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers' 9-8 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon. While the session was brief, it marked Ohtani’s first from the mound since his elbow surgery last fall.

Ohtani underwent surgery to repair the torn UCL in his pitching elbow in September 2023, and he’s not expected to pitch again until next season.
