Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu tabbed for first start since 2014

Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu will make his long-awaited return from the disabled list Thursday against the Padres, manager Dave Roberts said Monday.

Ryu will be making first major league start since the 2014 NLDS. He has been out since undergoing shoulder surgery before the beginning of last season.

Ryu was supposed to come back sooner, but he has endured multiple minor setbacks on his road to recovery. He threw 84 pitches in a rehab start Friday for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and has since been given the green light.

"I think any time you go through a rehab process, that last step, getting back to a major league level, you can't simulate in any way," Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Sunday, via ESPN.
