Former Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby has suffered a fresh setback after being ruled out for around four months following ankle surgery.
The 30-year-old joined Marseille in 2015 but featured just three times in Ligue 1 last term and also appeared just twice this season before needing to undergo surgery.
Diaby has struggled with regular injury troubles since breaking his ankle in a challenge by Sunderland's Dan Smith in 2006 while playing for the Gunners.
A statement on Marseille's website read: "For several weeks, midfielder Abou Diaby has been suffering with a right ankle problem. Given the persistence of the pain and that it was impossible for him to train, the medical staff decided surgery was necessary.
