Deyonta Davis sat with some degree of calm in the NBA Draft “green room” as the first three hours and 25 minutes developed of the league’s annual division of incoming basketball talent.
If only he’d shown that level of patience with his development as a professional prospect.
Ultimately, after 30 teams made their first round selections and league commissioner Adam Silver never once was instructed to call the name “Deyonta Davis, Michigan State,” Davis and his guests stood and left the area. He was still in the Barclays Center, though, when he finally was chosen with the first pick of the second round by the Celtics, a pick that will wind up with the Grizzlies.
