The Carolina Panthers are reportedly clearing cap space as they prepare to make a "strong run" at a trade for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson during the 2021 NFL offseason.
ESPN's David Newton reported Friday the Panthers' release of four players this week—defensive tackle Kawann Short, defensive end Stephen Weatherly, safety Tre Boston and punter Michael Palardy—created $19.9 million in cap space, bringing the team's overall total to $28.5 million.
Carson Wentz was the latest domino to fall in the trade market, as he was shipped to Indianapolis, where he will be reunited with Colts head coach Frank Reich.
