Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson tried to send a message with his footwear, but the result was a hefty fine from the NFL.
According to John Kiem of ESPN.com, the police tape cleats Jackson wore during the Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns led to a $6,076 fine. As Kiem noted, the receiver was planning to only wear them during warm-ups but instead kept them on all game.
Jackson switched back to league-approved cleats in Week 5.
The 29-year-old veteran clarified his message in a team statement, via Todd Dybas of theWashington Times:
Today is the start of my attempts to be part of a solution and start dialogue about the senseless killings of both citizens and police.
