Darlington gets expected soaking, proving NASCAR cancellation call correct

As rain pelted Darlington Raceway, NASCAR's decision to cancel all Friday events at the track proved the right one. Better days are ahead.

There's nothing like a half-foot of precipitation, wind and downright nasty weather to confirm such a hefty decision.

Hurricane Hermine's sideswipe left the track and surrounding areas soaked. Other locations in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina got it worse. The Atlantic coast north of Charleston, S.C., will get it next. And the Mid-Atlantic states are going to get it. We're looking at you, New York.

Hermine is now a tropical storm. It was expected to clear out, and Darlington had a much better forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
