Daniel Suárez becomes first international driver to win NASCAR championship

Daniel Suárez's barrier-breaking season has ended with a championship.

The Monterrey, Mexico, native who became the first Mexican-born driver to win a Xfinity Series race has ended his season as the first international driver to win a national series title.

In the season finale Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a spin from Ray Black Jr. brought out the caution flag with 10 laps remaining setting up a race-changing pit stop. Championship contenders Justin Allgaier, Erik Jones and Suárez took four tires while Elliott Sadler won the race off pit road with a two-tire stop.
