Less than 16 months after giving birth to her first child, Dana Vollmer is headed to Rio for her third Olympic Games despite a slower-than-expected time in the 100-meter butterfly on Monday at the United States team trials in Omaha, Neb.
Vollmer, the top seed and defending Olympic gold medalist in the event, led Kelsi Worrell to the turn at the halfway mark but appeared to fade the last 15 meters as Worrell charged to the finish with a time of 56.48, good for second fastest in the world this year behind only Swedish world record holder Sarah Sjostrom.
