Hawkins will be working under Butch Davis, who also left an ESPN announcing role last week to become FIU’s new head coach.
Hawkins, 56, previously served as head coach at Boise State (2001 to 2005) and Colorado (2006 to 2010). After a three-year hiatus from coaching, Hawkins was hired in 2013 with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.
