With his win in Sunday's Ford EcoBoost 400, Jimmie Johnson joined Hall of Famers Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as the only Cup drivers to win seven championships.
Johnson's seventh championship comes 10 seasons after his first, much quicker than Petty and Earnhardt, who might have been the first to congratulate Johnson on the win.
"I was telling Jimmie that I wish dad was here so he could shake his hand. He would call Jimmie a badass," Dale Earnhardt Jr. told NBC Sports during the victory celebration. His sister Kelley echoed the support.
Very deservingly @JimmieJohnson joins two other great racers with 7 championships!
