Dabo Swinney’s timing will almost always be perfect.
The Clemson coach broke up a monotone news conference with Alabama coach Nick Saban at the Tampa Convention Center on Sunday when compelled to talk about his playing career with the Crimson Tide.
“I always tell everybody, I was a crawl-on,” Swinney said. “I was one notch below a walk-on.”
Everybody laughed. That’s Swinney perfect timing, at the perfect time. He has No. 2 Clemson (13-1) back in the College Football National Championship game for the second straight season to face No. 1 Alabama (14-0). Swinney then launched into all those reasons why he will always love his alma mater.
