CHICAGO — They rewarded it all last autumn, all the hope, all the yearning, all the soul their fans had invested through all those empty decades. On a drizzly night in Cleveland, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Their fans have let them know what it meant.
“Nobody wants anything, which I love,” Manager Joe Maddon said on Monday. “Everybody just wants to say thank you. They don’t even want a picture or an autograph. They just want to say thank you, shake your hand, well done.”
The Cubs rejoiced on the field after Game 7.
