Conor Gillaspie becomes Giants' newest even-year magician

NEW YORK — Conor Gillaspie, presumably, has a World Series ring from 2012 with the Giants. Presumably, because it really didn’t occur to anyone to ask San Francisco’s latest postseason hero, given that he had never appeared in a playoff game before Wednesday night.

Gillaspie, 29, played six games for the 2012 Giants, a week in May when they went 2-4 against the Marlins, Brewers and Dodgers. He played third base, went 3 for 20 filling in for the injured Pablo Sandoval, was sent back to Triple-A Fresno and replaced as Sandoval’s injury replacement by Joaquin Arias. Gillaspie was traded to the White Sox for Jeff Soptic the next spring, to the Angels for cash considerations in July 2015, then returned to the Giants as a free agent in February.
