College video games remain in limbo as Supreme Court passes on O'Bannon case

The hope for a return of college sports video games took a hit Monday with the Supreme Court deciding against hearing the O'Bannon v NCAA case. Both the plaintiffs and the defendant were requesting that the high court rule on the subject of amateurism.

The class action suit was originally filed in 2009 by former UCLA basketball player Ed O'Bannon and related to the use of former college athlete likeness in video games. O'Bannon would remain as the face of the legal action even as it expanded to cover current college athletes and no longer related only to likenesses in video games.
