Of the many achievements Baylor basketball has accumulated during Scott Drew's years as its coach, this next one might be the most fleeting. It could last but a week, and might be purely ceremonial for most of those seven days. It certainly will be the least consequential.
Yet the program’s ascent to the No. 1 ranking in the college basketball polls is so improbable — in the context of this season and the overall rebuild Drew has orchestrated — that it resonates above and beyond the silliness of a bunch of journalists or coaches getting together and voting on who’s good.
