WIMBLEDON, England — Of the seven American women in singles matches at Wimbledon on Wednesday, none was as qualified to go off topic and discuss the Knicks, of all things, as CoCo Vandeweghe.
Vandeweghe is close to reaching a personal best at a Grand Slam event after a 7-6 (5), 6-4 second-round victory over 11th-seeded Karolina Pliskova on a sizzling hot day. She is also a big fan of her local basketball team, whose star player she eviscerated Wednesday as emphatically as she took care of Pliskova.
As her last name suggests, Vandeweghe is from a family of basketball royalty.
