For the first time since 1983, Clemson captured a national championship with an incredible 35-31 win over top-ranked Alabama in the College Football Playoff finale Monday.
Clemson erased a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit to take a 28-24 lead with less than five minutes remaining at Raymond James Stadium. But Alabama and true freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts responded with a 68-yard drive capped by a 30-yard Hurts touchdown run with 2:07 left — which was plenty of time for Heisman finalist Deshaun Watson.
Watson, aided by acrobatic catches from Mike Williams and Jordan Leggett, drove the Tigers down inside the Alabama 10-yard line.
